To commemorate the four year anniversary of Tenzin Delek Rinpoche’s failed court appeal and the second year anniversary of his unjust life sentence by Chinese authorities, SFT Canada members in Vancouver, BC engaged in various awareness and outreach actions. On January 26th, we strolled the busy blocks Vancouver leading up to the Chinese Consulate petitioning and explaining to people about the plight of Tibet and TDR. It was a surprisingly successful action, in part, because lots of bemused pedestrians inquired about the colourful, helium-filled balloons with posters of TDR pasted on them. We eventually reached the consulate, where we promptly posted banners and posters everywhere demanding the immediate release of TDR.

  • Free Tenzin Delek!

Saved, but not Free - After two years of advocacy by thousands of people around the world, Chinese authorities commuted Tenzin Delek Rinpoche's death sentence to a life in prison sentence on January 26th, 2005. In April 2002, the revered Buddhist leader and educator from Eastern Tibet was arrested by Chinese authorities and sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit. Pressure from individuals has achieved the first step: stopping his execution. Now, we must make sure this innocent man doesn't spend his life in prison.
